Community Involvement

Locally Owned and Operated - Longhorn Collision Center, is a locally owned and operated paint and body shop located in Austin. If doing business with local businesses is important to you, then we think you should know exactly what "locally owned and operated" means. Some businesses try to capitalize on this concept by using nomenclature that implies "local," but really isn't. For example, one body shop says they are "family owned." While that may be true, their family lives in another state—not in Austin. Another body shop claims they are locally owned, but the owners live in Houston. They own shops in Austin, Houston, and Dallas, but does living in Houston mean you are "locally owned?" And who's minding the shop here in Austin?

We are are truly a locally-owned collision repair facility. The owner is Larry Seiler, and he lives right here in Austin. Although he moved away from Austin after graduating from the University of Texas, he and his family got back to Austin as soon as they could. Larry manages the day-to-day operations of Longhorn Collision Center. In fact, most days you can find him working in his office—writing estimates, talking to customers, or working on this web site. If you are in the neighborhood, just stop by for a chat.

Community Involvement - We believe that locally owned also carries with it the responsibility to be locally involved. We are actively involved in a number of community activities and organizations. Some of these activities are shown on this page.

Strings Attached - Since 2004, Longhorn Collision Center has been a corporate sponsor of Will Taylor & Strings Attached. If you have not attended one of these concerts, you are in for a real treat. First, the shows are presented in a local church here in Austin, which gives you are rather intimate atmosphere, to say the least. Then Will Taylor's Strings Attached backs up a local musician with that artist's music arranged by Will or one of his band members. Sometimes, several local artists are featured in a program with a special theme such as the music of the Beatles or some other major artist. Besides being a sponsor, Larry has been a volunteer for Strings Attached since 2001. For more information, visit their website, StringsAttached.org.

Family Eldercare was founded in 1982 by a group of professionals concerned with supporting the family's role as caregiver for frail elders through training and information. The agency soon expanded to include services to prevent abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of elders and adults with disabilities. Today, Family Eldercare provides a continuum of services on a sliding fee scale to more than 5,000 elders, people with disabilities, and their caregivers annually in Travis, Williamson and Hays counties. Larry's wife, Terri, is a member of the board of directors for Family Eldercare. Larry has supported this program by regularly donating to silent auctions at a variety of fundraising events. For information visit FamilyEldercare.org.

The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) provides access to affordable health care for Austin's uninsured musicians, focusing on prevention and wellness. Austin is the "Live Music Capital of the World," yet many professional working musicians are self-employed and rarely have access to health insurance. Without insurance, they can't afford preventive health care, including primary medical care, basic dental services, and mental health counseling. HAAM is working to fill this gap. Longhorn Collision Center has been working with this worthwhile group since 2006. Annually we participate in the HAAM Benefit Day in October each year. For more information, go to Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

Zach Scott Theatre Center (ZACH) is one of Austin's most vibrant and innovative arts organizations and Central Texas' oldest professional theatre. ZACH produces professional theatre of the highest artistic quality, inspired by a unique artistic vision and offers a diverse theatre experience accessible to the whole community. Since 2002, Larry has been a volunteer for Zach and continues to volunteer from time to time. For more information, go to ZachScott.com.

SiteSource Real Estate Services - I feel like I would be remiss if I did not include something here about my wife's business. SiteSource Real Estate Services was founded by Terri Seiler, an executive with over 20 years of development experience in real estate and construction in a retail environment. SiteSource Real Estate Services specializes in real estate site selection and portfolio management. For more information, go to SiteSourceUSA.com.

Finally, I am involved in a few other ventures involving Texas musicians. John Wilson, a friend of mine, and I formed YourTexasMusic.com in 2005 with the idea of promoting CDs of Texas musicians. That site has now evolved into an online ticket and CD outlet for Texas music. If you're into Texas musics, please check the site out.

I am also in the process of starting up a recording studio, catering to newly formed bands and artists. Los Senderos Studio is expected to startup operation in mid- to late-summer 2008. Current information regarding the status of the studio can be found on the site.

At Longhorn Collision Center we have a slogan. While it may not completely apply to our aim about getting involved, it's not totally off the mark. What do you think?
